DESCRIPTION:
Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater,
Gibbs farm commands huge views of the surrounding farmlands.
Whilst at the back, the forested slopes are home to
an abundance of wildlife, including elephant and leopard.
If you are just passing through, Gibbs Farm provides
an oasis to rest as you can sit and relax in the gardens,
amid a variety of trees, shrubs and the many species
of birds that visit.
LOCATION:
Located at the entrance to the Highlands, midway between
Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, five kilometres
from the village of Karatu. (This is the heart of Tanzania's
Northern Safari Circuit, which includes the famous Serengeti
National Park, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Tarangire National
Park.)
NUMBER OF ROOMS:
The lodge offers 20 twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms.
Room amenities:
The rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are set among
the gardens. The main facilities consist of a sitting
room, reading room.
Room Décor:
In the last few years new rooms have been built. Two
are linked making them ideal for families. All the rooms
retain the charm of their unique garden setting.
Special Feature:
Gibb's Farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in
a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
FACILITIES: A dining room (which serves fresh,
home-cooked meals and bar situated in the old farmhouse.
Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm,
and a vast ten-acre fruit and organic vegetable garden
provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the
guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of
flowers and breathtaking views, Assortment tropical
fruits, homemade granola and muffins. Breakfast consists
of Fresh fruit, Eggs, omelets, pancakes, bacon or sausage
there’s also savory pies, vegetable dishes, hot
dishes, and salads and Traditional African dishes, Chocolate
mousse and Reggie's famous rice pudding, Homemade bread
and rolls. Gibbs Farm serves fresh, home-cooked meals
GENERAL FACILITIES:
The main facilities, reading room and gift shop, are
situated in the old farmhouse.
RECREATIONAL FACILITIES:
Gibbs Farm provides a welcome stop on any safari, and
a base from which to enjoy the many activities available
in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater. Even if your
stay is short, find time for a gentle walk or tour the
magnificent gardens. Bird watching, coffee plantation
visit, walks to the forest, waterfalls AND elephant

KIFARU LODGE

LOCATION: Kifaru
lodge is set high up in the farmland outside Karatu
on the edge of the forest reserve, it's a forty minute
drive from Manyara and about an hour and three quarter
from the Ngorongoro crater.
DESCRIPTION:
Near the primeval woodlands of Ngorongoro Conversation
Area is a vast plantation with Fields of coffee, grain,
vegetables and flowers. Here on an African farm surrounded
by Untouched wilderness is the Kifaru Lodge. This lodge
is situated in the midst of perhaps the most scenic
and wildlife territories of Africa. Here you can enjoy
the mysterious world of the Dark Continent and gather
unforgettable impressions in comfort and safety. The
owners have converted their coffee farm into a guesthouse
but still maintain coffee production. The place is very
small and personal with fantastic views of the cascading
valleys below and the coffee fields.
NUMBER OF ROOMS:There
are 10 rooms in total which are located in 3 separate
houses on the property.
The 2 honeymoon rooms are in a house located a short
distance away from the main buildings and are very romantic
with a private veranda. The guest-houses, design to
meet the diverse needs of single, families with children
or Even groups, will also ensure privacy, far away from
the beaten track.
Room amenities:
They are all en suite and look like a personal room
you would encounter as a guest at a farm. They all overlook
the valley and the coffee fields and have small ensuite
bathrooms. Accommodation is divided up into three separate
houses and there is a central dining room where everybody
eats together.
Room Décor:
The rooms are not large and they are very simply decorated,
the rooms are individually furnished in a different
theme but they are comfortable and many have a fireplace.

CLIMATE: Being
so high up (almost 7500 ft) at certain times of the
year, mainly July and August, Kifaru can be stuck in
cloud for much of the morning, but this is no doubt
one of the reasons the extensive gardens are so fertile.
