LOCATION:
Only an hour and a half from Cape Town, Birkenhead
House is named after a British troop ship that
sank in Walker Bay in 1852. From the comfort of
the residence, guests can look forward to sighting
the majestic Southern Right Whales that enter the
sheltered waters of Walker Bay every year to
calve.
DESCRIPTION:
Birkenhead House, perched high on the cliffs of
Hermanus, overlooking the Whale watchers paradise
of Walker Bay, accommodates in utmost luxury and
is the perfect destination for those seeking the
pinnacle of seaside living.
Looking out from
Birkenhead House's terrace, the beach on the left
is Voëlklip, (translated from Afrikaans means
bird rock). This beach lends itself to great
bathing. Enjoy the vista from the rolling lawns
and pack a picnic basket with a beach bats and
balls.
The beach on the
right is called Nanny's or Kamma Bay Beach. This
beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag
Status. Grotto beach is the largest and longest in
Hermanus. Feel free to make use of the various
beach equipment. Remember lots of suntan lotion!!
Nestled in a narrow
coastal plain between the mountains and the ocean,
Hermanus offers several options of walking trails,
all of which feature spectacular views of the
coastline or the beautiful fynbos-covered
mountains. Fernkloof Nature Reserve boasts
unrivalled birds-eye views of Walker Bay. Over 1
100 different plant species have been collected
and identified within the reserve, an area of only
15 square kilometers.
