KEEKOROK LODGE

LOCATION: Maasai
Mara National Reserve.
DESCRIPTION:
Keekorok Lodge lies at the southern end of Masai Mara
Reserve, approximately 280 kms from Nairobi. It is sited
in the direct path of the annual migration and was the
first lodge to be built in the Mara. At the height of
the migration, Keekorok is surrounded by a swarming
mass of animals and there is hardly need to go for a
game drive. Keekorok’s charm lies in the liberal
use of local building materials. Sand stone, cedar wood
and other indigenous materials are used in all rooms
and public areas. A 300m walkway meanders through the
riverine forest in front of Keekorok with a small bar
at one end overlooking a dam where the resident hippo,
if he is not on ‘walk about’ finds his observers
as fascinating as they find him.

10 single rooms and 74 twin rooms.
Room décor:
Accommodation at Keekorok is in bungalows, single storey
blocks and in comfortable
shaded chalets all en-suite. The liberal use of cedar,
pink and gray sand river stone
and other indigenous building materials off set the
green lawns and colourful
bougainvillea.

Special features:
Bush Dinner - Set on the banks of the Mara river, a
whole roast suckling pig and lamb are carved directly
onto guests plates as fish, chicken, pork and sausages
sizzle on a barbecue. A buffet of assorted salads, tropical
fruit and deserts compliment this feast fit for a king.
Maasai dancers entertain guests after dinner with their
unique ululation and high jumping dances. The barbecue
is only operable in fine weather. A bush breakfast can
also be arranged.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:
• Dining Room - This opens onto a verandah and
guests can eat inside or out. From the high-pitched
wooden ceiling hang hand-woven wool rugs and intricately
beaded Masai necklaces adorn the Sand River stone walls.
• Pool Bar - Open between 10.00am and 5.00pm.
This bar serves snacks from a small menu between meals.
Snacks cannot be taken in lieu of lunch in the main
restaurant.
• Hippo Bar - Sited at the end of the Keekorok
Walkway overlooking a small dam , cocktails and fresh
fruit juices are served daily from 10.00am - 12.30pm
and 6.00pm - 8.00pm. After nightfall an armed escort
must accompany guests to the bar.
• Lounge Bar - This bar situated in the main lounge
serves as a dispense bar for the dining room, verandah
and lounge. It is open from 6.00am until when the last
guest retires for the night.
GENERAL FACILITIES:
• Bureau de Change - The cashier can exchange
reasonable amounts of foreign currency.
• Children - Children are welcome at Keekorok.
Most bedrooms are easily large enough to accommodate
an extra bed. A children’s menu and early supper
is available and security guards by listening out for
pillow fights or a wakeful baby give parents the opportunity
to enjoy a peaceful dinner.
• Communication - Keekorok has 24-hour telephone
and fax service. A radio also allows for contact between
Keekorok, incoming aircrafts and other Mara Camps and
Lodges
• Shop - A shop is available for personal toiletries
and souvenirs.
• Credit Cards - All major credit cards are accepted
at Keekorok Lodge.
• Transportation - Air - scheduled services to
Keekorok are available from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.
Flying time Nairobi/Keekorok is approximately 35 - 60
minutes depending on the aircraft used and the number
of stops en route.
CONFERENCE FACILITIES:
The Video Lounge can be pre-booked and as a quiet conference
venue it has a capacity of 60 delegates cocktail style,
30 delegates theatre style and 20 delegates classroom
style

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES:
• Swimming Pool - The crystal clear swimming pool,
shaded by bougainvillea, has ample sun beds and mattresses
available for guest use. The pool is closed in the evening.
• Video Lounge - Wildlife films are shown here
every evening at 9.30pm.
• Lounge - Guests can relax in the cool lounge
and adjoining shaded verandah. Board games are available
from Reception.
• Hot Air Ballooning - For memories of a lifetime
three hot air balloons make daily flights from Keekorok
Lodge over the Maasai Mara. Piloted by a professional
licensed pilot each ascent last about 45 minutes and
is followed by a champagne breakfast wherever you land.
In exceptionally windy or rainy weather the pilots reserve
the right to cancel fights-guests are given a full refund
or offered, space permitting, a flight on another day.
Children under 6 years are not permitted to fly.
• Game Drives - Vehicles can be booked for game
drives through Block Hotels head office or directly
at Keekorok.
• Maasai Dancing - On alternate evenings a troupe
of Maasai Morans entertain guests for approximately
30 minutes. Lectures on Masai traditions and culture
are given daily.
CLIMATE: At
an altitude of 1,450 meters (6,400 feet) above sea level
with warm days and cool evenings. April-June, October-November
are the rainy seasons

KICHWA TEMBO TENTED CAMP

LOCATION: At
Masai Mara Game Reserve, on the foot of Oloololo Escarpment.
The distance from Nairobi is about 350 Kms (06 hour)
through the Nairobi/Narok road - either to Ngoringori,
Lemek and Aitong - or to Sekanani Gate, then Talek Gate,
Musiara Gate, Mara Rienta, Mara River and across the
bridge to Kichwa. Kichwa Tembo Airstrip is serviced
by daily scheduled flights in the mornings from Nairobi,
Nanyuki and Samburu and in the afternoons from Nairobi.
DESCRIPTION:
Located in a prime game viewing area in one of the richest
game reserves in Kenya. It is surrounded by an indigenous
Riverine forest and has great views of the reserve especially
during the annual migration of the wildebeestes.
NUMBER OF ROOMS:
40 tents and 06 Rondavels. Extra beds and baby cots
available.
Room décor:
Luxurious spacious tents with extended verandahs that
overlook the grounds and game reserve.
Room amenities:
Each tent is furnished with rugs, lamps, dressing table,
wardrobe, Hot water bottles, hand wash basin, shower
and flushing toilet, water flasks with glasses, insect
repellent, umbrellas, torches, bottled water.
Special features:
Comfortable, tranquil camp ideal for large groups and
has a choice of packages inclusive of game viewing drives.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:The
cool spacious dining room, with a capacity of 102 is
constructed under a traditional thatched roof and has
an unobstructed view of the vast Mara plains. Has comfortable
real leather chairs. Luxurious moonlit dinners, served
in the bush under canvas by a bonfire next to the banks
of the Mara River (at extra cost). Cocktails (at extra
cost) with hot and cold canapes, served on the slopes
of Oloololo escarpment, with breathtaking views of the
Mara plains below. Minimum six and maximum sixty persons.

Hot Air Ballooning can also be arranged at the Camp
Fishing excursions to Lake Victoria.
Guided Nature Walks (at an extra cost) through the three
nature trails at Kichwa:
a) The Kichwa Camp Trail - 62 acres of indigenous forest
within the Camp grounds.
b) The Mara River Trail - a gentle walk along the Mara
River to see the big game on foot.
c) The Oloololo Trail - a more strenuous walk up the

CLIMATE: Altitude
of 5,360 feet above sea level. The climate is temperate,
with warm days and cool nights. There are two rainy
seasons, short rains in November and December and long
rains in March, April and May.

LITTLE GOVERNORS CAMP

LOCATION: At
Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya. The distance from Nairobi
is approximately.295 Kms (5 hours) and about 45 minutes
by air to Musiara airstrip which is served by scheduled
flights twice daily from Nairobi.
DESCRIPTION:
Little Governors' Camp was built in 1976, around a small
watering hole that teems with birds and wildlife. The
camp, sister to Main Governor's Camp, has it's own exquisite
independent character, in a romantic setting. Getting
there is an adventure in itself as have to cross the
Mara River, by boat, then a short walk through the forest
escorted by armed guards.
NUMBER OF ROOMS:
17 tents (12 twins and 05 doubles).
ROOM DÉCOR:
Comfortable and tasteful spacious luxurious safari tents,
tucked away amongst trees, each with a private terrace
and veranda from which animals are viewed.
ROOM AMENITIES:
In keeping with safari tradition lighting is by gas
and kerosene lanterns, or by candlelight, en-suite shower/basin
and flush toilet/Bidet; running cold and hot water,
220 Volt plugs at reception and Hot-water bottle in
bed.

• Game package that includes game viewing drives
and nature walks.

MARA INTREPIDS

LOCATION: The
Mara Intrepids Club is located in the center of the
Maasai Mara National Reserve, on the banks of the Talek
River near one of the major annual wildlife migration
crossings. It lies at an altitude of 5,300 ft above
sea level 298 Km from Nairobi.
DESCRIPTION:
Mara Intrepids Club is where the real safari begins.
This luxurious tented camp has its own landing strip
and as you fly in to the 'Out of Africa' plains the
view is breathtaking.
The moment you set foot in the camp you will realize
the privilege of this unique location. Mara Intrepids
Club is set on the banks of the Talek River within the
famous wildebeest migration corridor, right in the heart
of the world’s greatest wildlife sanctuary in
Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. The luxury tents
are arranged under the shade of trees in small clusters
ensuring privacy and comfort. The evenings are enchanting
with the sounds of the bush under the wide plain's skies.
Mara Intrepids is divided into four distinct areas,
each with its own open-air dining area and ‘mess
tent’

Large poster beds and reproduction furniture with modern
en-suite bathrooms with hot showers. The secluded raised

in groups of two, three or four units to make individual
mini-camps. All tents are self-contained with own bathrooms
