Safari for the disabled
in Kenya
We at Claudious Tours and safaris have
recognized that disability is not inability to
travel. Demand for accessible tourism offers is
growing, and the tourism industry is starting to
recognize that tourists with disabilities form
an important consumer group of travelers.
Claudious Tours and Safaris specializes in
arranging tours for the physically impaired,
blind and the deaf in the community. We work
with a wide range of safari lodges, tented
camps, hotels and beach resorts to make sure
that we can give you the most accessible quality
accommodation available. We avail the use of
professional nurses during the escorted tours of
the game parks, boating on Lake Victoria,
Birding, cultural tours etc.
An African safari has a high priority on many people’s life “to do” lists, but safaris are consistently portrayed as being for able-bodied outdoor enthusiasts. However, safaris and other adventure activities for disabled people and those with limited mobility are a rapidly growing market, and there are more options now than ever. Even so, the decision to go on safari is significantly easier than trying to sort through all the information available and planning your itinerary. If you are a special needs traveler, or a family member or friend of a special needs traveler, there are a number of things to consider before and during the planning process.
When planning your trip, we ensure that you can be accommodated in every step of the way. The hotels we operate with have the rooms made specifically for the wheel chair to access. The vehicles we use to transport you to the site and during the course of the safari are accessible using the ram mounted on the back door. Our safari land cruisers have wheelchair locking system that allows travelers to remain in their chair or transfer out of it. We also offer at least two a personal caretaker per vehicle for those travelers that have more specific medical needs. The lodging we use has wheelchair accessible bathrooms.
There are often opportunities on safari to exit the vehicle, and in places where it is safe to do so, travelers can exit the vehicle to touch and smell things to enhance their experience.

For many people, disabled or otherwise, having some sort of in-country assistance is absolutely essential, whether you are traveling alone or your disability necessitates traveling with friends or family members. We also provide local guide who can serve as a translator in six languages that is English, German, Chinese, Italy, Spanish and French.
We also encourages people to bring any equipment that you may need with you during the safari, including tools for wheelchairs and the proper supplies for people using catheters, especially since access to hospitals and clinics and the quality of care abroad is often not at the same standard you may be used to at home. Medications should be labeled with your name and relevant information, and it may be a good idea to bring copies of your prescription, just in case. Be sure to pack essentials in your carryon luggage in the event that your checked bag(s) is lost.
The equipment and supplies required by a disabled traveler will vary from person to person, and the section on assessing your needs can help you identify some items you may require as a traveler that you may not have otherwise considered. While bringing equipment you are familiar and comfortable with is always the best option instead of relying on equipment provided by the lodge.
Game Drives:
Days on safari can start very early, though your individual itinerary may vary based on your wants and needs. Many safaris will do a morning game drive between 6 and 6:30 am local time – this is a time at which wildlife is very active, and it is a good time to be out before temperatures rise.
Breakfast is generally served before or after the morning game drive, and lunch will be served afterward. A second game drive generally takes place in the afternoon and lasts until sunset

Hi Claude
Upon our return home to Israel take this
opportunity to thank you on my own behalf
and our group members behalf to you personally and
to the stuff you've provided, for the success of
our safari trip to Kenya.
I know that working with disabled people is
extremely difficult and it is more difficult to
deal with a group of 7 disabled persons, all of
them requiring assistance at the same time. You
and your stuff have been overly patient with our
whims and left nothing to be desired.
The help you've provided us with was over and
above the obligations you've cobtracted to provide
under your contract with Funtours.
Please convey our thanks to your stuff especially
to Kenedy and Peter the driver of the 'boy's' car.
It was a pleasure to get acquainted with you.
You've helped us to get clearer understanding of
Kanya and its inhabitants
